What You Need to Know About the 2018-2019 Student Code of Conduct
Accompanying the start of the new academic year is the roll out of Drexel University’s 2018–2019 Code of Conduct by Residential Living and Student Conduct (RLSC), which seeks to create and maintain a process that is transparent and equitable for all students and student organizations.
Some of you might remember the previous “Student Handbook,” but the new Code of Conduct aims to be more transparent about polices and processes to help students understand exactly what standards they need to know and adhere to as a member of the Drexel community.
- Students. Though the new Code of Conduct outlines several conduct policies that students should be familiar with, it’s important to highlight the University’s alcohol and drug policies because these policies are some of the more commonly violated policies in the code. In addition, students and student organizations that reside in University residential facilities should familiarize themselves with the Residential Facilities policies as well. The Code of Conduct also clearly defines the Responsible Dragon Amnesty Policy (RDAP) which provides amnesty from disciplinary action for students or student organizations who seek medical assistance during an alcohol or drug related emergency. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the details of this policy, and know that the University’s primary concern is for your safety!
- Student Organizations. The previous “Student Handbook” did not focus on outlining processes and procedures for student organizations, so the new Code of Conduct aims to make those processes and procedures more transparent. All student organizations — including fraternities, sororities and club sports teams —must adhere to all policies listed in the Code of Conduct, and should be aware that the process for resolving complaints against organizations diverges slightly from that for individuals. Student organizations should also familiarize themselves with the Social Host Policy and the Responsible Dragon Amnesty Policy (RDAP).
