Fossil Guy Finds ‘Funky Worm’ With a Philly Hook

Ned Gilmore, collections manager in the Academy of Natural Sciences, was quoted in a Feb. 18 Philadelphia Inquirer article that reported on a new species of fossilized caecilian, a worm-like amphibian, found in Arizona’s Petrified Forest National Park. In Latinized form, the creature’s formal scientific name is Funcusvermis gilmorei is a tribute to Gilmore.
