Andrew Susskind

Susskind is an accomplished television producer and director who is the director of Westphal’s TV Production & Media Management program. He has spent his career working in, studying and teaching about the television industry. He is able to comment on trends in the industry. His experience and understanding allow him to contextualize many of the issues facing the television industry today, as well as being able to dissect and assess the elements that make particular shows and programming decisions succeed or fail.

He has written, produced and directed television shows in a breadth of genres spanning long-form, series, comedies and dramas. Susskind was the executive responsible for “Married With Children,” “Parenthood,” “227,” “The Charmings,” “Sweet Surrender,” “My Talk Show,” “Trial & Error,” “Conagher,” and “The Karen Carpenter Story.” He has also directed episodes of “King of Queens,” “Two Guys and a Girl,” “Unhappily Ever After,” and “The Hughleys.” His producing credits include “Dear Liar,” “Casey Stengel,” “Ian McKellen Acting Shakespeare,” and “JFK: A One-Man Show.” Susskind has commented in a number of media stories, including pieces about programming during the Super Bowl, new trends in television series and competition from online television viewing. He has particular interest in the portrayal of minorities in television and motion pictures and has served on the advisory committee for the Imagen Awards, which annually recognize positive portrayals of Hispanics and the Hispanic culture in television and motion pictures.
