In addition to her role as curator of the Drexel Historic Costume Collection, Sauro teaches courses in the history of fashion. Prior to this position, she supervised the Accessories Collection and worked as Assistant Curator in the Costume Collection at the museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. At the museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, she contributed to several exhibitions including “The Tailor’s Art and Arbiters of Style: Women at the Forefront of Fashion.” In 2005, she co-curated the exhibition “Dutch at the Edge of Design: Fashion and Textiles from the Netherlands.” Sauro is a frequent lecturer on the history of fashion and has contributed essays to the Encyclopedia of Clothing and Fashion (Scribner Library of Daily Life, January 2005) and Ralph Rucci: The Art of Weightlessness (Yale University Press, February 2007).

The Robert and Penny Fox Historic Costume Collection of Drexel University’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design is presenting an exhibition highlighting the influence of Chinese design throughout fashion history, including Western interpretations and imitations, known as “chinoiserie.” The exhibition Chasing the Dragon: China in the Western Imagination, running from October through December 2023, will open a conversation around cultural appropriation in historic fashion. The exhibit not only highlights the impact of stereotypes in fashion and arts, but also centers diverse voices from the Drexel community to highlight Asian American perspectives on reclamation.

Drexel University’s Robert and Penny Fox Historic Costume Collection (FHCC) of the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design is opening its new, custom-built gallery space with the presentation of The Fox Collection, 2008-2018: A Decade of Renewal. The exhibition honors Robert (Hon. ’13) and Penny Fox (Hon.’13) for their generous support, which made the new gallery possible. It will open to the public on Friday, Sept. 28, 2018 and run through March 23, 2019.
James Galanos Drexel Exhibit Pays Tribute to Design Integrity of Fashion Legend James Galanos 
The Robert and Penny Fox Historic Costume Collection (FHCC) of Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts and Design will present a retrospective exhibition of work by renowned fashion designer James Galanos. The exhibition, James Galanos: Design Integrity (October 19-December 8, January 8-27 2019), will celebrate the artistry of James Galanos, considered by his peers to be one of the greatest and most creative of American designers of the 20th century.
Fox Historic Costume Collection Google’s New Virtual Exhibition Includes Iconic Pieces from Drexel’s Robert and Penny Fox Historic Costume Collection

Three-thousand years of the world’s fashion is being brought together in the largest virtual exhibition of style. The “We wear culture” project, by Google Arts & Culture, is a collaboration with Drexel University’s Robert and Penny Fox Historic Costume Collection and more than 180 renowned cultural institutions from New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, São Paulo and others around the world. 

James Galanos Evening Dress Drexel’s Fox Historic Costume Collection Receives Gift from James G. Galanos Foundation  
The Robert and Penny Fox Historic Costume Collection (FHCC) of the Westphal College of Media Arts and Design has received a gift from the James G. Galanos Foundation. This gift, comprising nearly 700 couture-level ensembles dating from the 1960s to his retirement in 1998 will form The James G. Galanos Archive at Drexel University. This donation will be augmented in the coming year by additional support materials relating to the career of James Galanos from the James G. Galanos Foundation.

A stunning collection of clothing and accessories created, worn and sold in Philadelphia from 1896 to 1994 will be on display from March 13 – June 26 as part of Philadelphia in Style: A Century of Fashion from the Robert & Penny Fox Historic Costume Collection, Drexel University at the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, Pa.The special exhibition of dresses, wedding gowns, shoes, hats and other items will be drawn from Drexel University’s Robert and Penny Fox Historic Costume Collection (FHCC) in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, which will loan the items from its holdings of more than 14,000 garments, accessories and textilesfrom the last three centuries.
