Shahin Jabbari, PhD
Jabbari’s research and teaching focuses on questioning and exploring the ethical aspects of using algorithms to assist decision making. He has studied how algorithms are used by lending institutions, in criminal justice and public health communications – and how they can create inequities and inefficiencies in each scenario if not properly designed or managed.
He has studied computer science, game theory and machine learning at the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University. Jabbari has published and presented on artificial intelligence to determine fairness of algorithmic decision-making processes. At Drexel, he is leading efforts to educate future computer scientists about the ethical considerations that should go into creating decision-making algorithms; and looking at how algorithms and AI technology can lead to a positive societal impact.
