Foster is interim dean of the School of Education and professor of Learning Technologies in the School of Education and associate dean of Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies. He teaches and conducts research on the theoretical and practical application of immersive digital environments. His research interests focus on exploring learning, design, and technology for human cognition, behavior, and identity exploration. Foster investigates and designs digital and immersive technologies such as games, simulations and virtual worlds to help learners develop knowledge and explore identities to impact interpersonal, intrapersonal and cognitive competencies. His work with the GLIDE lab aims to explore the learning process, motivation to learn, and identity change in students using immersive digital technologies to impact formal and informal learning.

'Keys to Collection' app opens interactive experience with Barnes collection
A new app created for the Barnes Foundation by assistant professors Aroutis Foster, PhD, and Jen Katz-Buonincontro, PhD, in Drexel University’s School of Education, was featured on WHYY/Newsworks.org, KYW Newsradio, WPVI-TV (6-abc) and WCAU-TV (NBC-10) on Sept. 3. It was also spotlighted in the University City Review, the Philadelphia Metro and the Philadelphia Daily News. William Lynch, PhD, professor and former dean of the Drexel's School of Education, was quoted on WHYY.

Drexel University’s School of Education created a new, interactive mobile application for young visitors of the Barnes Foundation. Using 3-D immersive graphics, the touch-screen app, entitled “Keys to the Collection,” launches a game environment of the Barnes’ beloved, world-renowned art collection. The app turns a visit to the Barnes into a game or can be used to explore the Barnes virtually from anywhere.
