As we enter the second month of fall term, the Department of Public Safety wants to remind the community of the many campus safety resources available and share tips to help prevent package theft. We also invite you to participate in the Red Cross blood drive we are co-sponsoring on Nov. 19. Please stay safe, stay alert and know we are here for you.

The Drexel Department of Public Safety continues to work hard to ensure our campuses remain safe for students and other members of the University community. As a reminder, community members should report any safety concerns to Drexel Public Safety at 215.895.2222. Nov. 19: Red Cross Blood Drive
Drexel Public Safety is sponsoring an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Nov. 19. The drive will take place at Red Cross House on 400 Powelton Drive and run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sign up by following this link or visiting the American Red Cross website and entering the sponsor code “Drexel Police.” Want to save time on donation day? Tips for Preventing Package Theft
Drexel Public Safety and the Philadelphia Police Department are working together to ensure community members are aware of ways to prevent package theft. Please review the following tips, which have been distributed via flyers in and nearby the Drexel community:
- Leave instructions to put your package out of view, over a fence, or somewhere secure.
- If ordering from Amazon, choose a locker as the delivery address at checkout.
- Require a signature upon delivery. A package with this requirement will not be delivered unless it is signed for.
- Have your item shipped to a store near you for pick-up.
- Have your package delivered to a different (but trusted) location, such as to the home of a neighbor who you know will be able to receive it safely.
- Instead of delivery, try curbside pick-up.
- Monitor delivery alerts/updates, keeping track of where your package is and expected delivery times.
- Purchase a package lock box for your home.
- Install cameras as a deterrence and to monitor your property.
Sign Up for City Alerts With ReadyPhiladelphia
The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management has an alert system called ReadyPhiladelphia, which anyone can sign up for to receive updates and advisories about emergency updates, road closures, severe weather advisories, and transit delays for the city overall. To receive text alerts, simply text “ReadyPhila” to 888-777. You can also read more information and sign up on the City of Philadelphia website.
