GETTING TO KNOW ALLIED UNIVERSAL
Drexel University’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Drexel Police work closely with Allied Universal Security Services to provide daily security services to the Drexel community. Allied Universal security officers service the University City, Center City* and Queen Lane campuses. Allied Universal is an industry leader, pioneering many standards to keep businesses and communities safe.
Allied Universal security officers are trained in First Aid/CPR/AED, customer service and relations, patrol practices and terrorism awareness. They provide emergency response services, fixed-post security, building access control, pedestrian and traffic safety, event security and safety awareness. They patrol campuses on foot, bicycle and vehicle. These security officers do not have the authority to make arrests.
Security officers are also available as walking escorts for students, faculty and professional staff on campus. Visit the DPS website to learn more about how to request a walking escort.
*Security officers patrol the following buildings on the Center City Campus: 219 Broad St., 1427 Vine St., 11th and Parrish streets, Stiles Hall and Three Parkway.
Meet the Director
Anna Frett is the director of contracted services for Allied Universal at Drexel. Contracted with Drexel for over 20 years, Anna has enjoyed watching the University grow and evolve into the world-class institution it is today. An impactful change for her was the creation of Drexel’s Police Department and the developed collaboration with Allied Universal security officers. Outside of Drexel, Anna enjoys many hobbies such as making wine, crocheting, reading and traveling with family and friends. If ever an option, she would spend every day on the beach.
COMMUNITY COMMITMENTS
Many Allied security officers maintain long-term commitments to the University. Ted Mathis has been working at Drexel since 1996 and has been employed with Allied since 1987. Mathis knows the campus by heart and has worked at many different campus locations throughout the years, maintaining impeccable attendance. He is currently assigned to the Vidas Athletic Complex. Revered for his customer service skills, Mathis maintains a wonderful rapport with coworkers and Drexel community members. A dedicated employee, he still remembers successfully traveling through the Blizzard of 1996 to report for work.
Healthy Hearts for Families: DPS is working together to collect healthy snacks for families who stay at the Ronald McDonald House while their children are cared for at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). DPS will visit these families on Valentine’s Day to drop off the donations.
Drexel Public Safety is always happy to participate in community events, whether it’s a charity tournament, race, parade, fraternity or sorority event — you name it. Travel Safely
Public Safety offers walking escorts within our patrol boundaries in University City upon request, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To request an escort, call 215.895.2822, use a blue-light emergency phone or ask any Public Safety officer on patrol. University City District Ambassadors also provide walking escorts from 10 a.m. to 3 a.m. between 30th and 42nd streets from Wallace Street to Woodland Avenue, and from 42nd to 50th streets from Market Street to Woodland Avenue.
Drexel University Real Estate and Facilities runs free shuttles for students, faculty and professional staff to and from all three Philadelphia campuses. Passengers are required to present a valid Drexel University ID to the driver.For current schedules, visit the Bus Service Schedules webpage.
Stay Alert When You Walk
Campus improvements sometimes yield necessary construction. Please be aware of your surroundings and refrain from texting while walking to avoid possible injury. Current campus construction and traffic advisories can be found on the Real Estate and Facilities website.
