As Donna M. Murasko, PhD, prepares to end her 16-year tenure as dean to return to the faculty, the College of Arts and Sciences will move ahead under new leadership with the appointment of Maria T. Schultheis, PhD, as interim dean, effective July 1.
Professor Schultheis, a clinical neuropsychologist, is well-known to the Drexel community — as a member of the Psychology Department faculty since 2005, and department chair since 2016. She also earned her doctorate in clinical psychology at Drexel in 1998.
In her new post, Professor Schultheis hopes to emphasize the important role that the College has to play in Drexel’s vision and mission, and she looks forward to exploring new initiatives with colleagues across the College and the University.
Prior to joining our faculty, Professor Schultheis was a research scientist at Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Corp. in West Orange, N.J., where her responsibilities included directing the Virtual Reality for Rehabilitation lab and a co-appointment at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ-NJ Medical School in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Following her undergraduate studies at Rutgers University, Professor Schultheis earned a master’s in biological science at Temple University. Her post-doctoral internship was done in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New York’s Mount Sinai Medical Center.
As a researcher, Professor Schultheis’ work has been supported by more than $3.8 million in public and private grants. She has consulted with the National Institutes of Health and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, along with various international research agencies. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles, presentations and book chapters. She is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and the current president of the association for Doctoral Education of Clinical Neuropsychology.
A permanent dean will be appointed for the 2019–2020 academic year, following a national search. At this time, please join me in welcoming Professor Schultheis as interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
