The elaborate chimings of an ornate clock donated to the Drexel Collection just a few years after the University was founded can be heard in the Anthony J. Drexel Picture Gallery thanks to an interactive display.
The Rittenhouse Orrery Clock was designed and put together by David Rittenhouse in 1773. An astronomical musical clock, it not only told time but also gave the position of the planets and the rotation of the sun.
The clock was conserved in 2005 and continually maintained by clock restorer and Drexel engineering alumnus Ron Hoppes.
