Cross Commencement Needs Off Your Checklist at Next Week's Graduation Fair

If graduating Drexel students feel like it’s unreal that Commencement is just a month away, they should prepare to get their minds blown next week.

On May 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., students can start checking off items from their graduation to-do list at Graduation Fair 2014 at the University City Campus Bookstore in MacAlister Hall. During the event, students can purchase their caps and gowns and get their allotted tickets. Future graduates can also finalize their student status by meeting with representatives from Drexel Central to discuss any lingering financial aid, student accounts or academic issues.

“Graduation Fair is a one-stop opportunity to take care of all the necessary details on the road to Commencement.” said Richard Kopp, director of student leadership development and traditions in Student Affairs. “This is the first and best time to purchase your cap and gown, diploma frames and class rings; order announcements; make your class gift; learn about alumni resources and services and much, much more – all in one location.”

Staff from several University offices will be on hand for graduation-related questions, inlcuding representatives from the Office of Alumni Relations and the Alumni Association, Drexel Central, Steinbright Career Development Center, the Office of Graduate Studies, the “Lexerd” student yearbook, the Recreation Center, Drexel Senior Experience, the Senior Class Gift Campaign (MyLegacy) and DragonDollars.

Raffles will also be held during the event, with prizes including Drexel memorabilia, alumni prize packs, a diploma frame and a reimbursement voucher for graduation regalia.

During the Graduation Fair, seniors can learn more about how to make a donation toward their class gift, which can also be done through an online form. Seniors can also donate unused DragonDollars directly to the campaign.

“Seniors can donate directly to their favorite student organization or an area of Drexel like scholarships, an athletic team, student veterans or a different area of their choosing,” Kopp said. “At the Graduation Fair, a representative from the MyLegacy campaign will be there to discuss ways in which they can donate.”

The Graduation Fair is the first day when students can pick up regalia and tickets for Commencement. Those items will also be available for purchase and pick-up from May 21-June 13 at the University Bookstore on 33rd and Chestnut streets, as well as the bookstore on the Center City Campus in the Bellet Building on 15th and Race streets. To guarantee their guest tickets, students must purchase their regalia by June 5.
