Drexel University has appointed Randall C. Deike, PhD, from New York University as senior vice president of its new Division of Enrollment Management and Student Success. This new division was developed to better align Drexel’s administrative structure in order to provide the optimal student experience. Deike will start in his position at Drexel on Sept. 1.

As senior vice president for enrollment management and student success, Deike will oversee key aspects of the Drexel student experience currently dispersed widely at the University. These include Enrollment Management; Drexel Central Student Financial and Registration Services; Academic Advising, Retention and Diversity; the Steinbright Career Development Center; Student Affairs; and Institutional Research, Assessment and Effectiveness, which will have a dual reporting relationship to the Provost’s Office.

All the experiences that a student has with Drexel—from recruitment to admissions and financial aid; academic support to co-op; career services to student engagement; and co-curricular activities—must lead to the outcome of student satisfaction, which results in improved retention and graduation, and are the goals of the University’s Student Lifecycle Management initiative. Since this initiative’s success depends on having a single focus of responsibility and leadership that is empowered to impact all key operations, the University expanded the enrollment management leadership position.

“Randy quickly became our top candidate because of his extensive accomplishments in each of the areas of leadership we sought, at three of the nation’s top 40 universities,” said Drexel University President John A. Fry. “I am confident that the creation of the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Success, and the leadership of Randy, will significantly improve the student experience and position Drexel for success in the rapidly evolving higher education market.”

Deike has been vice president of enrollment management at New York University since 2009, overseeing the offices for undergraduate admissions, financial aid and institutional research and program evaluation. He previously was vice president of enrollment at Case Western Reserve University, one of Drexel’s strategic benchmark universities, and spent 15 years at Penn State University, rising to associate vice provost of enrollment management while earning master’s and doctoral degrees. He began his career working in residential life at his undergraduate alma mater Juniata College, where he eventually became associate dean of students.

Deike has a long track record of service to higher education including national committees such as the National Association for College Admission Counseling’s Commission on the Use of Standardized Tests in Undergraduate Admission and the College Board’s Task Force on Admissions in the 21st Century and Advanced Placement Higher Education Advisory Committee.
