Off Campus Takes Home Outstanding Achievement Award

Off Campus, Drexel’s student-produced comedy television series, won Outstanding Achievement in Student Production at the 2011 National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards.

Congratulations to all of the students and faculty involved including the six students and recent alumni who were designated by name (Ryan Goldberg, Kristina Massie, Laurel Chadwick, Ashley Hulse, Andrew Catenia, James Hall) and professor Andrew Susskind who oversees the production of the show. Other Westphal faculty members who provided key instruction for the production were professors Stacy Bronte, John Avarese and Dave Schwartz.

The production of Off Campus continues an integrated and interdisciplinary learning approach that has screenwriting and playwriting students writing the scripts and film and video and television students handling all aspects of production for the series, all of which are included in coursework offered within the Department of Cinema & Television. During the 10-week production schedule, students work in a variety of production roles including producer, director, gaffer, grip, audio engineer, lighting technician, camera operator and director of photography. Westphal interior design students serve as art directors; fashion students do costumes and makeup; and music industry students create the score. The cast for Off Campus are all professional actors and the series is made possible through the generous support of the Kal and Lucille Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry studies.

Off Campus, episode 2, continued the adventures and misadventures of recent college graduates and roommates Claire, Dean, Felix, Hailey and Nick as they grappled with the beginnings of adult life. Specifically, Felix believed he'd met the girl of his dreams, whose presence in the house brought to the surface simmering issues. In light of Felix's new love interest, Claire and Dean tried to work out their relationship problems while trying to focus on their careers.
