Tiny Treasures: Elegant Miniatures on Display in Rincliffe Gallery

Elegant miniature furnishings from The Drexel Collection are now on display in the Rincliffe Gallery on the third floor of the Main Building (32nd and Chestnut Streets).

The pieces on display, as well as many more items still in storage, were donated in 1976 by Marjorie Ellis Kroha, class of 1914, home economics. She also donated more than 500 works of decorative arts including silver, glass and porcelain.

The furnishings include sterling silver cups, saucers, teapots, sauceboats, baskets, Queen Anne high chests, Chippendale tea tables and leather wing chairs. The sterling silver sauceboat with ladle measures a mere 1/2" high, the diameter of the silver tea cup is 1/8” and the Chippendale tea table with carving on the knees and hairy paw feet is 2 1/4” high. There are even tiny lamps, candles, newspapers and a miniature can of Campbell's soup, which is no larger than a push pin.
