Drexel Conference Spotlights Future of Energy and Sustainability in Mid-Atlantic Region

The seminal Drexel University Advanced Energy Leadership Conference kicked off today showcasing regional leadership in advanced grid technology. Hosted by Drexel University’s College of Engineering along with title sponsors Viridity Energy and Lutron Electronics, the event will gather regional and national policy, technology and business leaders, who will discuss the sea change happening in the energy landscape and how it directly impacts the large energy consumer. The two-day seminar is being held on April 8 and 9 at Drexel University’s Bossone Research Enterprise Center in Philadelphia, PA.“We are excited to host the inaugural Advanced Energy Leadership Conference,” said Anthony Lowman, Associate Dean of Drexel University’s College of Engineering. “We are doubly pleased to bring together the foremost technology leaders from business, policy and academia to showcase and workshop real solutions to today’s energy challenges.”During the conference, the over 150 attendees will also gain insight from over 25 key regional leaders from FERC, the State of Pennsylvania, the City of Philadelphia, PJM, PECO, and more while learning best practices and technical insights in advanced grid technology, generation and storage from the leading business and technology experts in the field. Centering around the growing opportunities that the smart grid provides to large consumers, experts will use the conference to explore how to better manage energy expenses and develop new sources of revenue by interfacing with power markets, which ultimately reduces grid congestion and energy prices for all rate payers. The location for the conference was selected as it is the home to an innovative microgrid project that will transform—and ultimately optimize—the university’s energy consumption system. As a smart grid grant project partner with PECO, Viridity Energy will collaborate with Drexel University to demonstrate how dynamic load optimization can be used to create virtual energy generation. The Drexel University-Viridity Energy project will showcase the implementation of a two-way interface using secure communication channels between the end-users’ resources and the grid through Viridity’s VPower™ System. “Viridity Energy is proud to participate in this cutting edge conference in our home town of Philadelphia,” said Audrey Zibelman, Founder and CEO of Viridity Energy. “Large energy consumers have a number of tools they can leverage today to reduce energy consumption and create new revenue streams. Similar to the innovative work we are doing on Drexel’s campus, commercial property developers and owners along with campus and facility managers are in a position to realize substantial economic and environmental benefits by utilizing smart grid-related technologies that are ready to deploy today.”About Viridity Energy, Inc.
