What: Women Against Abuse (WAA), Philadelphia’s leading domestic violence agency, will kick off the 2nd annual iPledge Campaign on October 8, with a ‘purple’ event, featuring Michael Nutter and artist performances on Drexel University’s campus. Co-sponsored by Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine Program and Drexel, the campaign calls on each and every Philadelphian to take a personal stand against domestic violence.Visuals: The city will designate October 8th as “Purple Day” – the color of the anti-domestic violence movement, in honor of the iPledge Campaign. The Cira Centre will be lit purple, as will Drexel’s Walkway Park (32nd Street, between Market and Chestnut Streets) and the fountain at Korman Quad (between 32nd and 33rd Streets, Market and Chestnut Streets). City employees will wear purple, and purple banners and bus shelter ads will line Broad and Market Streets. Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine Program will collect cell phones to benefit victims of domestic violence. To send a crew at night to film segment/weather report on campus from purple locations, call 917.428.1857 for clearance before 6 p.m.Who: Speakers will include Mayor Michael Nutter, State Senator LeAnna Washington, State Representative Brendan Boyle, 107.9 FM midday host MoShay LaRen; and President of Verizon Wireless’ Philadelphia Tri-State Region Mario Turco.
