Drexel University has joined the Philadelphia Bar Association, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and the Committee of Seventy to invite other employers to allow employees time-off in order to vote on Election Day. The University recently adopted a policy giving employees up to one hour of paid time-off to vote.WomenVote PA is encouraging all employers to consider creating similar policies that permit flexible work schedules on Election Day. At a recent press conference at Philadelphia’s City Hall, employers and organizations that support “Time-Off for Democracy” policies signed a pledge. Drexel’s adoption of the time-off policy is part of a larger University initiative, Drexel Votes 2008. The initiative aims at educating students about the issues facing the nation and the candidates’ positions on these issues.
