What: About 30 Philadelphia high school students and future lawyers will exercise their critical-thinking and teamwork skills during a mock-trial tournament at Drexel University.Four teams of up to eight students from 10th, 11th and 12th grades will compete in the tournament, hosted by the University’s College of Law and Pennoni Honors College. The teams will serve as the prosecution and defense in a criminal case involving a high school student who was kidnapped by a cult to extort money from the student’s parents.Visuals: • Students from the winning team receiving $5,000 Drexel scholarships, gold medallions and a gold trophy for the team’s high school • Students competing in the moot court room, a replica of a courtroom • Drexel students serving as judges, bailiffs and jury members, and Carl “Tobey” Oxholm III, the University’s executive vice president and chief of staff, serving as the presiding judge in the final roundWhen: Saturday, March 15, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The final round will begin at 2:45 p.m. and awards presentation, about 4 p.m.Where: Drexel’s College of Law, 3320 Market St. Rounds will be held in Rooms 140, 240, 340 and 440News media contact: Brian Rossiter, Drexel News Bureau 215-895-2705, 267-228-5599 (cell) or brian.rossiter@drexel.edu
