Drexel Appoints Michael J. Exler Vice President and General Counsel
Drexel University President Constantine Papadakis has announced the appointment of Michael J. Exler to the position of vice president and general counsel of Drexel, and general counsel of the Drexel University College of Medicine. Exler will succeed Carl “Tobey” Oxholm III, who was recently promoted to the new position of executive vice president and chief of staff at the University. Exler has been with the Office of the General Counsel since May 2000, and most recently served as vice president of the Drexel University College of Medicine, secretary of the College of Medicine's Board of Trustees and member of the Dean's Executive Committee and Cabinet. Exler’s experience over the past 20 years includes work in both private practice and the non-profit sector. Prior to joining Drexel, he served as senior counsel for the Johns Hopkins Health System, where he also served as board secretary for four Hopkins-related entities. Prior to that he served as associate general counsel for the Allegheny Health Education and Research Foundation based in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. His career in higher education followed seven years in the private practice of law with the Pittsburgh law firm of Kabala & Geeseman (now part of Fox Rothschild).Exler holds a bachelor of arts degree from Dickinson College and a Juris Doctor degree from the Duquesne University School of Law, where he was a member of the editorial board of the Duquesne Law Review.
