A physician from Portland, Oregon, Dr. Lovejoy was one of the founders and first president of the Medical Women’s International Association and director of American Women’s Hospitals international relief organization from 1919-1967. Throughout her career, she was decorated and honored by France, Greece, Yugoslavia, Jerusalem, and Great Britain. Her contributions are celebrated in sculpture in Nikea, Greece and with her portrait, which hangs in the Esther Pohl Lovejoy Hall at the Philippine Medical Women’s Association building in Manilla. She also campaigned for the right to vote at the state and national level and ran for U.S. Congress in 1920.
