Doctor or Doctress?

Explore: Doctor or Doctress? web resource exploring history through the eyes of women physicians

Doctor or Doctress? is a web resource designed for high school student exploration of the history of women through the eyes of women physicians. Sets of primary source documents, or "stories," provide a platform for developing critical thinking skills and experiencing history through those who lived it.

Complete with both student and teacher supports, each story may provide a valuable and engaging angle from which to study significant moments and themes in the historical timeline.

Educators will find teaching guides for each set of documents, with suggestions for classroom activities.

For all teachers and classrooms, we offer no-cost virtual services like research assistance, virtual classroom visits, and live video tours. Contact us to make arrangements and learn more!

If you are in the Philadelphia region and want to visit, we welcome students and teachers to use and tour our archives. For students and teachers, we are open evenings by appointment. (In-person services suspended during COVID-19 restrictions.)
