SALURBAL ancillary studies and related initiatives

SALURBAL team members lead and collaborate on numerous ancillary studies and other projects. These initiatives leverage additional funding mechanisms and engage a wide network of individual and institutional partners:

A SALURBAL Study: Green Spaces, Air Pollution, and Climate Related Heat Mortality in Latin American Cities

This ancillary study builds upon the unique database developed by the SALURBAL project, which includes information about the urban environment, socio-economic indicators, and health outcomes for people living in over 300 cities across 11 Latin American countries.

Cardiovascular Disease Risk Research in Central America

A joint initiative of the Drexel Urban Health Collaborative and the Institute for Nutrition of Central America and Panama (INCAP), this program focuses on developing the research capabilities of trainees and local capacity building in policy-relevant research on the influence of social determinants and place-based factors on CVD risk across the lifespan.

Paid Maternity and Paternity Leave and Health: A SALURBAL-MAPECA Study

The goal of this study is to examine the impact of expansions of paid maternity and paternity leave on the health of infants and adults in 366 cities from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, and Peru.

Early Independence Award from the National Institutes of Health

The awardees will study the “scaling properties” – such as pollution, wealth, wages, social interactions and housing — of 718 cities in the United States and Latin America.

Other collaborating institutions/organizations

In addition to the partners listed above, SALURBAL is grateful for the collaboration of many urban health researchers and practitioners across numerous institutions throughout Latin America, the US, and beyond.

Data partners

SALURBAL also acknowledges the contributions of many different agencies in generating, processing, facilitating access to data or assisting with other aspects of the project. For a full list, see our Data acknowledgments.
