Summer Preparation

ITA – International Teaching Assistants Program

Program Format

Drexel University sponsors a four-week summer preparation program for international incoming doctoral (PhD) students who have been awarded teaching assistantships. Our summer preparation program is conducted in a hybrid format. The first two weeks of the program are conducted online in a blend of asynchronous and synchronous remote instruction. The final two weeks of the program take place in-person on Drexel's campus.

Program participants are required to attend the remote and in-person components of the training.

Program Dates – 2025

  • Remote Training Component – August 11 to August 22, 2025
  • In-person Training Component – September 2 to September 12, 2025

Program Curriculum

The four-week program is a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare international teaching assistants (ITAs) for their responsibilities at Drexel University. The curriculum addresses language, appropriate pedagogy, and the culture of the North American university classroom through interactive lectures, workshops with campus departments, micro-teaching presentations and panel discussions with students and experienced Teaching Assistants (TAs). The program is taught by dynamic, experienced faculty who are experts in the field of International Teaching Assistants preparation.
