There is no better way for students to learn a foreign language, expand their global perspective, discover other cultures and enhance their professional potential than education abroad. Drexel's Department of Global Studies and Modern Languages immerses students in experiential learning such as international co-op, global classrooms, intensive courses abroad, plus study and research opportunities.
Marissa Smale, BA international area studies '01, says her undergraduate major provided her with a solid foundation in cultural competency by immersing her in other countries and languages. One of her most impactful experiences was her time spent studying abroad in Madrid, Spain. It sparked a curiosity in people, communication, and different perspectives that she continuously draws on in her clinical practice as a psychotherapist.
Smale joins "On the Map," the Department of Global Studies and Modern Languages' podcast series, to share more about her journey to becoming a licensed psychotherapist. Listen to the episode below and click here to learn more about "On the Map" and how you can participate.
