Physics Colloquium

Thursday, October 9, 2025

3:30 PM-5:00 PM

Join us on Thursday, October 9th at 3:30pm for our first colloquium of the Fall Term!

Guest lecturer, Dr. Dylan Temples, will be visiting from Fermilab and present his talk "Enhancing the Search for Dark Matter with Quantum Sensors".

Abstract:
The dearth of signals unambiguously attributable to WIMP dark matter motivates exploring new parameter space, requiring the development of new technologies. Techniques from the fields of quantum information science and atomic physics provide avenues to developing sensors with unprecedented sensitivity to dark matter models beyond the WIMP and axion paradigms, particularly sub-GeV (“Light”) and ultralight dark matter. In this talk, I will discuss advances at Fermilab in leveraging quantum sensors for dark matter direct detection searches, focusing on two areas of my research: qubit-based sensors within the CosmiQuantum group and long-baseline atom interferometry with the MAGIS-100 experiment.
