Friday, October 27th for the fourth seminar in our Fall Series! Guest lecturer
Dr. Dirk Trauner will be joining us from the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Chemistry.
Abstract:
Neuropharmacology continues to drive new developments in chemistry and biology. I will exemplify this with a new synthesis of Tetrodotoxin (TTX), which targets voltage-gated sodium channels, that can deliver the neurotoxin in 22 steps and on a useful scale. photopharmacology of ion channel blockers will be covers as well. Finally, I will make the case that "Proximity Photopharmacology" is a particularly effective strategy to control the fate and function of proteins, with an emphasis on ion channels and applications in neuroscience.
