Stalling or Oiling the Engines of Diagnosis? Tinkering with the DSM in US and UK Psychiatry

Friday, January 20, 2023

3:00 PM-5:00 PM

Join us for a lively talk with Martyn Pickersgill, professor of the Sociology of Science and Medicine, University of Edinburgh, who discusses his research regarding ongoing data collection on how psychiatrists –principally based in England and Scotland– account for and to some extent tinker with diagnosis. While data is still be collected, it is very clear that the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders is at once both used and lamented.

Light refreshments will be provided.

This event is sponsored by the Department of Sociology and the Center for Science, Technology, and Society.
