11th Street and Fox Chase Team Up to Offer Breast Cancer Screenings to Uninsured
June 12, 2013
11th Street Family Health Services of Drexel University collaborates each spring with the Fox Chase Cancer Center to provide breast cancer screenings to 11th Street patients who don’t have insurance that covers the tests. On March 20, more than forty women received a mammogram and a bag of breast cancer educational materials at the event.
Fox Chase returned again on May 22, 23 and 24 to screen between 30-40 11th Street patients on each of those days. “The patients appreciate this opportunity, especially uninsured women because it is likely that they would not have received a mammogram otherwise,” said Jennifer Ford, Health Promotion and Outreach Associate at 11th Street Family Health Serices. Drexel Nursing students, pictured here at a table in hot pink hard hats, assisted with the screenings by registering women and stuffing the take-away bags.
