11th Street Family Health Services of Drexel University in partnership with Family Practice and Counseling Network, a comprehensive, nurse-managed health center run by  the College of Nursing and Health Professions, was identified to participate in a second round of surveys as a model to discover how integrative medicine is being practiced throughout the U.S.

The Mapping Study, performed by The Bravewell Collaborative, will assess the emergence and usage of integrative medicine within the health care system over the past decade.

11th Street Family Health Services participated in a phase one study of over 50 clinical sites using integrative practice. Currently, phase two has chosen 11th Street to a further funneled down list of 28.

Study results are to be completed by researchers in 2011 and will serve to provide health care systems and payors with the opportunity to understand which models of care have the greatest potential to improve Americans’ health and well-being and reduce costs.

The 11th Street Family Health Services of Drexel University is the result of a 14-year partnership between Drexel’s College of Nursing and Health Professions and residents of four public housing developments along the 11th Street corridor in North Philadelphia. The aim of the partnership is to improve the health status of the residents in this underserved community and build with them a place of their own where health care is delivered in response to their identified needs.
