Spring Move-Out Guide for Drexel Students: Bulk Trash & Furniture Donation Options

Everything You Need to Know for a Smooth, Responsible Transition.

Moving out this spring? Drexel students living off-campus can take advantage of resources designed to make move-out easy and responsible. Whether you need to dispose of large items or are exploring third-party options for reusing or donating eligible furniture, this guide covers bulk trash collection and available disposal alternatives.

Drexel University is dedicated to keeping our neighborhoods clean and welcoming. By working together with Philadelphia residents, Drexel Dragons can help maintain a vibrant community. As you prepare for move-out, remember to recycle and dispose of your items thoughtfully. Here’s what you need to know!

Bulk Trash Pick-Up: How It Works

Students in Powelton Village, West Powelton, and Mantua (Mantua Ave to Market St, 31st to 42nd Streets) can take advantage of Drexel’s partnership with The Enterprise Center of University City for bulk trash pick-up from Tuesday, June 16 to Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Place large items (such as tables, dressers, mattresses, and couches) curbside between 6 a.m. and noon for collection—there will be two sweeps each day. Note: Regular household or bagged trash isn’t included, so check the City of Philadelphia trash schedule for details.

If you need to dispose of bulky items outside the designated curbside hours, you can use one of these dumpster locations:

  • 3240 Powelton Avenue (Off-Street/Curb)
  • 3412 Powelton Avenue
  • 3608 Powelton Avenue

Donating Furniture You No Longer Need

If you're looking to donate gently used furniture at the end of the term, students may explore local donation options, including Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia's ReStore, which accepts eligible items directly from individuals and provides instructions for drop-off or pick-up through its donation website.

Please note that Drexel is not affiliated with or sponsoring this service. All donation arrangements, eligibility criteria, and scheduling are handled directly by the organization.

Tips for a Responsible Move-Out

  • Clean your property - sweep and wipe down surfaces inside and out before you leave.
  • When packing your vehicle, be mindful of neighbors and leave enough space for parking.
  • Use Drexel's bulk trash and donation services to keep the area clean and reduce landfill impact.

By following these steps and taking advantage of campus resources, you're making move-out easier for yourself and helping Drexel and Philadelphia stay welcoming for everyone!
