Retailer Spotlight: Greek From Greece
by Kevin Estrella, '23
It’s always exciting to welcome new dining options on campus! Greek From Greece (GFG) opened in Fall 2021 at 107 N. 33rd Street on Drexel’s University City Campus, and Drexel Business Services had a Q&A with owner Jimmy Gouliaberis to get the details on the new restaurant.
Q: We understand that you were the owner of Drexel Pizza and closed the restaurant to renovate and reopen as Greek From Greece. How long have you been in the restaurant business and what do you enjoy most about it?
A: I have been in the restaurant industry for over 22 years, and I love it more each day. My favorite part is meeting so many new people each day. Strong relationships are so important in the restaurant industry. This new chapter of my career is exciting because I get to tap into my Greek roots and introduce a Greek culinary experience to so many people in Philadelphia.
Q: Why the change from Drexel Pizza to Greek From Greece?
A: To provide a product and experience that you can’t find on Drexel’s campus. Greek From Greece specializes in Mediterranean bowls and sandwiches, Greek pastries, and desserts. We also serve coffee, including standard espresso beverages as well as Greek specialties such as the freddo espresso and freddo cappuccino. It’s a place where the Drexel community can get food, or coffee, and sit down to hang out or study.
Q: What are the most popular menu items?
A: The Mediterranean bowls — students love them! And Freddo Cappucino’s — we are proud to introduce Freddo Cappuccinos to the Philadelphia market.
Greek From Greece is open daily 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. and invites the Drexel community to consider hosting their events in their newly renovated restaurant or having GFG catering their next meeting. GFG is currently offering a ten-percent discount to all Drexel students and employees. Follow Greek From Greece on Instagram @gfg.philly.
