Flipgrid: Where social learning happens

What is Flipgrid?

Flipgrid is a website that allows teachers to create "grids" to facilitate video discussions. Each grid is like a message board where teachers can pose questions, called "topics," and their students can post video responses that appear in a tiled grid display.

How do you use Flipgrid?

Step 1: Enter the Flip Code

You can go to www.flipgrid.com on a computer. We recommend using Google Chrome for the best experience. On mobile devices, download the free Flipgrid app for iOS and Android devices.

Enter the Flip Code drexelbiomed2020. If you have trouble, please contact our Flipgrid admin, David Myers, for assistance.

Step 2: Sign into the Grid

You will join using your Drexel Email. Click Login with Microsoft, enter your 'abc123@drexel.edu' email address.

Step 3: Record a Video

Once in a Grid, click the green plus to record in a few easy steps:

  1. Tap to record - Tap the record button on the bottom to start. Add fun stickers, filters, text, and more. Tap the arrow on the bottom right to advance.
  2. Review your video - Trim, rearrange, or add more. Tap the arrow in the bottom right to advance.
  3. Take a selfie - The selfie will be the cover image for your video. Tap the arrow in the bottom right to advance.
  4. Submit your video - Edit your name, add a title, or attach a link. Then submit!

Students can also record their own custom video and import it to Flipgrid using the button just to the right of the record icon. Learn how to import a custom video or how to include a screen recording.

Before you hit record

What are some best practices to follow?

  1. Be aware of your surroundings - Be sure your environment is relatively quiet and free of background noise.
  2. Be well lit - Try to record your segment while facing a window or lamp so that your face is illuminated. If you’re backlit, it will be hard to see your face in the recording.
  3. Dress appropriately - Dress the way you want to be perceived. As Michael Jordan once said, "When I look good, I play good."
  4. A little practice goes a long way - You have infinite number of attempts to get your video right, so no worries if you want to re-record to your liking.
