    Join us on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 4pm EST! In this seminar three researchers will explore different aspects of climate change misinformation and disinformation. Dr. Gavin Schmidt, Director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, will discuss the issue from a technical perspective, offering a scientific critique of common and incorrect arguments, while also offering his experience in seeking to provide sound information on climate change to the public. Dr. John Cook of the University of Melbourne will discuss the types of fallacies prevalent in climate change misinformation and disinformation and how identifying these misleading rhetorical techniques and reasoning approaches can help combat misinformation and disinformation. Dr. Emily Vraga, the Don and Carole Larson Professor of Health Communication at the University of Minnesota, will discuss approaches to debunking misinformation and disinformation and how these techniques can be applied to the climate change debate.
