Vanessa Altidor '22
Vanessa Altidor ‘22 is a Project Lead at Drexel University. She earned her MBA at LeBow College of Business with a concentration in marketing.
Tell us about the project you were involved in.
Vanessa: I worked with Drexel Solutions Institute (DSI) to create a strategy to help a children’s hospital increase its target consumers and reposition its organizational brand. Our team comprised of graduate students from various disciplines including business and public health. We innovated a strategic direction and presented it to the executive leadership team at the hospital and Drexel.
What did you learn by working with external partners?
Vanessa: I gained various skills in research, communication, branding, strategy and innovation. These abilities have strengthened my business acumen and marketability. The most useful experience I gained was presenting to executive leadership. Creating professional presentations, engaging in high-level communication, and project management have aided me in endeavors such as winning case competitions and professional interviews.
For you personally – what is the value of participating in projects that involve external partners?
Vanessa: Working with projects that involve corporate partnerships allows students to experience real-life professional expectations for projects, deadlines and work output.
How has this opportunity impacted your Drexel experience?
Vanessa: Professional experiences such as working with DSI were essential to gaining knowledge and applying my coursework to real-life scenarios.
What was your favorite part about participating in this opportunity?
Vanessa: Working with Dr. Michael Howley, who is a professor in marketing at LeBow College of Business, was easily my favorite part of this project. He walked us through each step and provided a great framework for our project. In addition, Dr. Howley has been a great resource since the completion of this project and has helped me with a variety of professional endeavors.
How has this project shaped your academic career beyond co-op?
Vanessa: I used presentation skills from this project to present in a national case study competition in which my team placed first.
Did participating in this project affect your career interests?
Vanessa: This project solidified my interest in marketing. I decided to do a concentration in marketing and am currently interviewing for roles in marketing leadership development.
