This policy provides guidelines for students who decide to voluntarily withdraw from the University.


To voluntarily withdraw from the University, a full-time student must personally report to the college or school in which they are enrolled to begin the withdrawal process. In circumstances where in-person withdrawal is not feasible, the student may initiate the withdrawal action in writing to their college or school. Verbal or written notice to any University faculty, administrator, or staff person other than the designated person in the college or school is not sufficient for official withdrawal or the determination of an effective date of withdrawal. It is not possible to withdraw by telephone contact.

The Office of the Registrar determines the effective withdrawal date, which is normally no earlier than the date of initial contact with the college or school. The last day to withdraw from the University is at the end of the respective term. When setting the withdrawal date, consideration will be given by the college or school for medical issues that may cause delay in a student's filing for withdrawal, such as hospitalization or psychological/emotional impairment. Official and appropriate documents will need to be presented.

All full-time students, whether attending classes or on co-op, are considered to be active students and, accordingly, are responsible for satisfying all financial obligations accumulated until the time when they officially withdraw as explained above, or the University declares them inactive.

Refunds of tuition and fees are processed by the Office of Student Accounts/Bursar in accordance with the University's official tuition refund policy. All students are encouraged to meet with Drexel Central to discuss their billing and financial aid prior to formally withdrawing from the University.


Undergraduate and Graduate Students


If a student withdraws from the University, the recording of student courses and grades will be accommodated as follows:

  • Students withdrawing from the university within the drop/add period will result in all courses being dropped for the term
  • Students withdrawing from the university during weeks two until the end of the term will result in all courses being withdrawn for the term. However, if a course(s) have already been assigned a grade(s) by the instructor, before the official withdrawal, the course(s) will not be withdrawn and the grade(s) for the course(s) will remain on the official transcript.
  • Students withdrawing from the university during final exam week, will result in permanent grades assigned by the instructor and the withdrawal will take effect beginning the next quarter.
  • Following withdrawal from the University, a student cannot seek re-admission for the subsequent term following the formal withdrawal.
  • Students who return to the university after formally being withdrawn must adhere to the following checklist:
    1. Complete and return the clinical treatment provider report, if withdrawal from the university was classified as medical
    2. Meet with academic advisor to review academic plan of study and progression toward degree.
    3. Meet with Steinbright Career Development Center (SCDC) if enrolled in a Co-op program
    4. Meet with Drexel Central to review Billing and Financial Aid
