This message was shared with students on March 9, 2026.
Dear Students,
On Thursday, April 16, Drexel will celebrate the inauguration of President Antonio Merlo with an investiture ceremony at 10 a.m. in the Daskalakis Athletic Center, followed by a community reception. The inauguration of Drexel’s 16th president is a historic moment for our University. It provides a chance to witness an institutional milestone and be part of a celebration of Drexel's future. Your participation would make this moment even more meaningful.
To allow students to participate, classes will be suspended from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16. This includes undergraduate and graduate courses across most programs.
Presidential inaugurations are rare institutional celebrations that bring an entire University community together. As current students, you are an important part of this occasion, and your presence highlights the energy, promise and future that this inauguration celebrates.
To attend the investiture ceremony, please register by March 23. For the full schedule of inaugural week events and more information, visit drexel.edu/inauguration. A livestream will also be available if you're unable to attend in person. Questions may be directed to inauguration@drexel.edu.
Please note that classes at the College of Medicine, Pennsylvania College of Optometry and the Kline School of Law will be held as scheduled. Additionally, if your work involves clinical assignments, please check with your manager.
We are looking forward to having you join us for this special moment in Drexel's history.
Sincerely,
Paul E. Jensen, PhD
Executive Vice President
