Winter Undergraduate Research Mini-Grants

This fall, UREP awarded 16 Undergraduate Research Mini-Grants to Drexel faculty-student pairs to fund research projects during the Winter Term. Mini-grants of up to $2,000 will pay for necessary equipment, materials, and student pay.

Student and faculty recipients come from across the University, including the College of Arts and Sciences; College of Computing & Informatics; College of Engineering; Dornsife School of Public Health; College of Medicine; Pennoni Honors College (custom-designed major); School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems; and School of Education.

Students funded by mini-grants will present their work at the 2024 Week of Undergraduate Excellence in the Spring Term. In the meantime, read more about their projects here:

Winter Mini-Grant Recipients

STAR Scholars Application is Open

Applications for the STAR (Students Tackling Advanced Research) Scholars Program are now open! STAR Scholars engage in paid, full-time, faculty-mentored undergraduate research, scholarship, or creative work during the summer after their first year at Drexel. Students in the program receive a stipend, free on-campus housing, and workshops and programming to teach research skills and connect them to opportunities at Drexel. Applications are due on Monday, January 29, 2024 at 12pm noon.

Travel Grants & Conferences

During the Fall Term, we funded travel grants for students presenting their research at several conferences:

  • Three students attended the 34th Congress of the International Society for Technology in Arthroplasty (ISTA) in New York, NY.
  • Two students attended the MICCAI Computational Diffusion MRI Conference in Vancouver, Canada.
  • Three students (including two UREP Ambassadors) attended the National Academy of Neuropsychology (NAN) Annual Conference in Philadelphia, PA.

Additionally, Nursultan Zhanabay, a chemical engineering major and 2023 STAR Scholar, received a travel grant to participate in the Annual Eclipse Launch Expedition in Rocksprings, Texas from October 12-16, 2023. This trip built on his STAR research with Dr. Richard Cairncross (CoE) on high-altitude balloon measurements of atmospheric dynamics during eclipse events.
