Biography
Jinjie He is an Assistant Research Professor at the C. & J. Nyheim Plasma Institute at Drexel University. Her research focuses on the development and application of non-thermal plasma technologies for environmental, agricultural, and biomedical applications. Her work spans plasma-activated water and mist, plasma-liquid interactions, advanced oxidation processes, and sustainable plasma-based solutions for contaminant destruction and surface decontamination.
Prior to this position, she received her M.S and Ph.D. in Civil, Architectural & Environmental Engineering from Drexel University, under Christopher Sales. Her doctoral research investigated the antimicrobial efficacy and efficiency of plasma-activated water (PAW) and plasma-activated mist (PAM) in water, and on the surface of fresh produce and N95 masks.
Her research group studies non-thermal plasma technologies on various application including surface decontamination, disinfection, water treatment, agricultural system, and plasma medicine. Her current studies focus on investigating PAW as an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional solvents for military cleaning applications and on an EPA-funded project focused on plasma destruction of HFC-containing waste refrigerants.
Research Interests
My research interests focus on non-thermal plasma science and engineering, with an emphasis on plasma-liquid interactions and their applications in environmental remediation, sustainable agriculture, biomedical and public health. I am particularly interested in developing plasma-based technologies for water treatment, contaminant destruction, surface decontamination, disinfection, and advanced materials processing. My work integrates fundamental plasma chemistry with applied engineering to create scalable, sustainable solutions for challenges such as HFC destruction, food safety, and environmentally friendly cleaning technologies.
