Biography

Professor Alexander Fridman, Ph.D., Dr. Sci., Nyheim Chair Professor and director of the Nyheim Plasma Institute of Drexel University, the world leading specialist in plasma physics and plasma chemistry, elected Fellow of the US National Academy of Inventors.

Prof. Fridman is a world pioneer in the non-equilibrium plasma kinetics, including plasma conversion and processing of fuels, and other organic materials. He is a founder of Plasma Medicine, and the first President of the International Society for Plasma Medicine.

Dr. Fridman worked in different National Laboratories and Universities of United States, France, and Soviet Union. He wrote 10 monograph books and more than thousand scientific papers, including such books as “Plasma Chemistry” (2008), Plasma Science and Technology” (2023), and “Plasma Physics and Engineering” (2021) published already in 3 editions.

Dr. Fridman received numerous awards, including International Plasma Medicine Award, Stanley Kaplan Distinguished Professorship in Chemical Kinetics and Energy Systems, George Soros Distinguished Professorship in Physics, Chernobyl Nuclear Accident Medal, Dupont award, University of Illinois and Drexel University Research awards, Kurchatov Gold Medal for Scientific Achievements in Nuclear and Plasma Sciences. He received the State Price of the USSR, the country highest award in science. Dr. Fridman received the ISPlasma Prize, Reactive Plasma Award, and Plasma Chemistry Award, the highest in plasma field. He was inducted in 2026 to the International Hall of Fame in Plasma Material Science.
