Wednesday, April 13, 2022

2:00 PM-3:15 PM

Hear about innovative public health research and practice that is happening locally, nationally, and globally with a focus on improving population health and eliminating health disparities at the Dornsife School of Public Health's annual Population Health Spotlight Series.

The 2021-2022 theme is “Climate, Justice and Health.”

About the Speaker:

Kristie Ebi, PhD, MPH, has been conducting research and practice on the health risks of climate variability and change for nearly 25 years. Her research focuses on understanding sources of vulnerability, estimating current and future health risks of climate change, and designing adaptation policies and measures to reduce the risks of climate change in multi-stressor environments. She has worked with multiple countries in Africa, Central America, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific in assessing their vulnerability and implementing adaptation measures, including to address  heat-related morbidity and mortality. Moreover, she has provided technical support to multiple countries and cities in developing heatwave early warning and response systems, and in analyzing associations between weather and other environmental variables and heat-related morbidity and mortality.

Ebi was a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) special report on warming of 1.5°C, and of the 4th U.S. National Climate Assessment. She also co-chairs the International Committee On New Integrated Climate change assessment Scenarios (ICONICS), facilitating development of climate change scenarios. Her scientific training includes an MS in toxicology and a PhD and a Master of Public Health in epidemiology, and two years of postgraduate research at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She has edited four books on aspects of climate change and have more than 200 peer-reviewed publications.
