STEAM Education Workshop

ExCITe Center (3401 Market Street), February 15, 2016

Academic and industry leaders alike have called for graduates entering the workforce to be creative, innovative, and able to work collaboratively with others. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Design, and Mathematics) is a growing national movement to address this need, arguing for a broader approach to learning that emphasizes the creativity and “making" that is common to both the Arts & Design and the STEM fields. The ExCITe Center, focusing on creative technologies for human expression, employs the STEAM framework to develop best practices for multidisciplinary research and pedagogy, incorporating the latest technology and innovations for learning.

The workshop, with formal programming from 10am-3pm, will feature a keynote presentation by Ben Volta and will highlight novel education efforts in the region integrating STEM with the Arts & Design, incorporating speakers and small group break out sessions to showcase STEAM activities.  Additional speakers will include:

  • Dr. Andrea Forte, College of Computing and Informatics, Drexel
  • Ariel Schwartz, Associate Director of Interactive Technology at Philadelphia Museum of Art
  • Dr. Brian Smith, School of Education, Drexel
  • Tim Boyle, Philadelphia School District

The workshop is open to the Drexel community and select external education partners.
