Past Programs

Throughout its history, the ExCITe Center has served as an incubator for ambitious ideas that bring together technology, creativity, and collaboration. Many of the Center's most influential initiatives began as experimental projects, interdisciplinary partnerships, or research collaborations that grew into lasting programs, new technologies, and broader communities of practice. While some of these initiatives have concluded or evolved into independent efforts, each helped shape the Center's culture of innovation and demonstrated the value of bringing together expertise from across disciplines.

The programs highlighted below represent a cross-section of the ExCITe Center's history and impact. From supporting early-stage research through Seed Projects to advancing digital fabrication with the Shima Seiki Haute Technology Lab, these initiatives explored new approaches to learning, design, performance, health, and human-computer interaction. Projects such as Skyscraper Games, Drumhenge, LiveNote, Expressive Robotics, The Science of Music, and the Magnetic Resonator Piano (MRP) exemplify the Center's commitment to creating technologies and experiences that connect research with real-world applications and public engagement.

Although these programs have reached their original conclusion or transitioned into new forms, their influence continues through the people, partnerships, and ideas they inspired.
