Robert McGrath
Executive Director and Associate Vice Provost for Drexel University
Robert McGrath, PhD joined Drexel University in December, 2005. Prior to joining Drexel, he was Interim Director of Technology Licensing at the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Technology Transfer, overseeing a six person licensing team. He has personally negotiated dozens of license agreements, and facilitated the creation of ten new start-up ventures. His license agreements have generated more than $4 million in initiation fees, and produced several hundred thousand dollars in payments to Penn annually. He has negotiated sponsored research agreements that provided $3 million to Penn’s researchers. He has also served as a consultant for venture capital, performing technical due diligence of investment opportunities, and currently serves on the Life Sciences Technical Advisory Committee for Ben Franklin Technology Partners. McGrath regularly contributes to panel discussions of university commercialization, teaches aspects of commercialization to new professionals, and has served as co-organizer of the Basic Licensing Course for the Association of University Technology Managers. He received his PhD from The Rockefeller University, and was an academic researcher for nearly fifteen years before entering the field of technology transfer.
