Background

The Coulter-Drexel Translational Research Program is dedicated to improving human healthcare by supporting translational research in biomedical engineering and the health sciences – research directed at the transfer of promising technologies developed at Drexel into clinical practice. Started in 2006, the Coulter program now exists at 15 universities across the United States. The Coulter process for vetting, selecting and managing projects is known for its aggressive commercialization timeline (3-5 years), and Coulter funded projects average an 8x leverage of the funds granted in follow-on funding from angel and venture investors.

Fellowship Program Overview

This fellow position will be an hourly position (average 8-10 hours/week) during the Coulter funding cycle (January 15- May 31, with most of the work January 15- March 31) to provide primary and secondary market analysis for submitted proposals. The position reports directly to the Coulter Program Director. Fellows will also interact with teams that are submitting proposals, as well as the licensing managers at the Tech Commercialization team of Drexel Ventures. Interviewing clinicians in the field of use may be required. This work will result in a market assessment report that will inform the strategic business plan for each project that submits a proposal to the Coulter program. Training sessions in basic patent and prior art searches, as well as market analysis for early stage technologies, will be held in December.

Salary/Hours

• $25/per hour
• 10- 15 hours a week (expected time frame January thru May, with more work Jan-March, and limited work April-May)
