Drexel’s Happiness Lab featured on the The EntreProfessor Podcast

The Happiness Lab at Drexel University

August 13, 2026

In a recent episode of The EntreProfessor Podcast, "Why Creating Something Bigger Than Yourself Feels So Good," Eric Zillmer, PsyD, Carl R. Pacifico professor of Neuropsychology, and John H. Wilson, PhD, MBA, creators of The Happiness Lab at Drexel University, discuss the Lab's mission, how it was founded, and the impact it has had on the Drexel community. The episode also features Program Director Amanda Moore ’25 and recent psychology graduate Kent Masten ’26, who share their experiences with the Lab and reflect on their roles in its growth and success. Because students played an essential role in launching the Lab, Zillmer was insistent on highlighting their valuable contributions.

“The mission of the Happiness Lab at Drexel University is to investigate the meaning of happiness and its role in our lives and society," said Zillmer. “According to the United Nations 2024 Happiness Index, young adults (ages 20-29) in the United States report low levels of well-being. No question, the college cohort has been challenged by the pandemic, a soft job market and geopolitical uncertainty. Understanding the psychological factors that contribute to happiness has therefore become increasingly important, particularly among college students navigating complex social, economic and academic environments.”

“It was not surprising that Drexel students were eager to embrace the idea of a Happiness Lab, and we have a very robust team of undergraduates from many majors participating in several projects. It is such a delight when a Drexel student comes to seek me out and politely asks whether there is still 'room' for them in the Happiness Lab. Students are almost relieved to have a place on campus that scientifically investigates their well-being.”
