Abryana Kevelier-Williams '24 joined Dean David Brown, PhD for his Discussions with the Dean series to chat about her passion for justice informatics and experiences at Drexel, including a co-op in Crete, Greece and an intensive course abroad (ICA) in Scandinavia.

The recent College of Arts and Sciences graduate majored in criminology and justice studies with a concentration in justice informatics and minors in Chinese language and linguistics. She is now pursuing a master’s degree in Justice, Law and Criminology at American University.

Given the global nature of crime and justice issues, the Department of Criminology and Justice Studies encourages students to participate in at least one faculty-led study abroad program that explores various justice-related themes. Students interested in intelligence and security-related careers are encouraged to minor in a language.

“Being able to have a global perspective of different crime policies allowed me to have an understanding that I might not have otherwise been ever able to have,” Kevelier-Williams said about the seven-day course in Denmark, led by Associate Professor of Criminology and Justice Studies Jordan Hyatt, PhD. “After that ICA was finished, we were able to work with Dr. Hyatt on a research project. That’s another thing that I’m so appreciative that I’ve been able to do at Drexel — to be able to learn things in class and then actually do something with them.”
