Join us on
Friday, October 20th for the third seminar of our Fall Series! Guest speakers,
Dan Cooper, Andy Pawlikowski, and
Jing Lu will be joining us from
Johnson Matthey! This seminar will also feature co-op opportunities for undergraduate Chemistry majors!
Abstract:
Johnson Matthey has been steadily improving the lives of everyone for over 205 years. From catalysts enabling the manufacture of fertilizers that allow us to grow sufficient food for the world to cleaning up harmful emissions, pre-cursors for drugs to treat cancer, producing the pure metal for jewelry and medical devices, there’s hardly a part of life we do not touch in a positive way. At the center of all this is our deep expertise in the chemistry and process science of the Platinum Group Metals (Pt, Pd, Rh, Ir and Ru).
We are a global company with local roots in the Delaware Valley dating back to 1842. This talk will introduce you to Johnson Matthey and some of our science, the catalysts that give us clean air to breathe, the process to refine the platinum group metals (PGMs) from spent catalysts and other sources creating the world’s first circular economy, and the role that PGMs play in the hydrogen economy and the transition away from fossil fuels.
