Math Colloquium: Spectral Analysis and Diffusions on Singular Spaces
Wednesday, October 30, 2019
3:00 PM-4:00 PM
Alexander Teplyaev, University of Connecticut
Abstract: The introductory talk will outline results and challenges in spectral and stochastic analysis on non-smooth spaces that are very singular, but can be approximated by graphs or manifolds. Such fractal spaces first appeared in the classical works of Cantor, Sierpinski, Hausdorff, and recently found unexpected applications in new areas, such as quantum gravity.
