Bio:
Nahyun Kim is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication. Her research focuses on strategic communication, including how organizations reflect social values through communication and how diverse publics interpret and engage with these messages. She also studies environmental and science communication, with a focus on emotional and cognitive responses to mediated content and their influence on public engagement and understanding. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals including Public Relations Review, International Journal of Business Communication, Corporate Communications: An International Journal, Public Understanding of Science, and Media Psychology.
Nahyun earned her Bachelor of Arts in Television & Film (dual major: Business) from Ewha Womans University in South Korea. She later received her Master of Science in Journalism and Communication from Iowa State University and her PhD in Mass Communications (minor: Social Data Analytics) from Penn State University. Before pursuing graduate studies, she worked for several years at CJ, one of South Korea’s largest entertainment companies, where she specialized in film distribution, exhibition, and integrated marketing.
