Program
The Health Administration Department at Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions now offers an accelerated 4 + 1 degree option. Participants can earn both a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Health Services Administration and a Master of Health Administration (MHA) degree in five years. This accelerated program will prepare the next generation of leaders to tackle the business challenges of the complex and ever-changing healthcare industry. Students will develop a strong foundation in management and economic principles, while exploring industry-specific challenges related to such areas as managed care, non-profit leadership and practice management.
Admissions Steps
Before starting the application materials for this program, keep in mind these three steps:
- Look closely at the plan of study and think carefully about whether this is right for you.
- Learn more about health administration and career areas of interest.
- Discuss graduate program options with your academic advisor.
- Apply through your academic advisor to the BS-MHA to update your plan of study.
We strongly recommend a meeting with a Health Administration faculty member before selecting the BS-MHA program.
Admissions
Students who are starting their sophomore year will start the application process. Only full-time students can apply. The admission criteria are as follows:
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above while maintaining a 3.0 throughout your curriculum.
- A personal essay that clearly articulates the student’s aspirations for a career in Health Services Administration and how an MHA will support those goals. The essay should also include the student’s reasons for pursuing an MHA via the accelerated program.
- Two (2) letters of recommendation (academic or professional).
- Students must be within the credit range of 70-80 credit hours.
- Once the student has accumulated 80 credits, an accelerated degree application must be completed before reaching 120 credits.
Additional Information
- Application materials are due by the end of the winter quarter.
- Once the Health Administration Department receives those items, be sure to meet with a designated MHA faculty member to discuss your program readiness and eligibility.
- Once you are in the program, you will start taking MHA courses in the fall of your junior year.
To remain in the BS-MHA 4 + 1 Accelerated Program, students must meet the following criteria:
- Earn a minimum grade of “B” throughout the program.
- Remain a full-time student.

Drexel’s Health Administration Department is an associate member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA).
Career Opportunities
The Bureau of Labor Statistics most recently predicted a 28% growth rate for Health Service Managers and Administration through the year 2032 (BLS.gov 2023).
About 54,700 openings for medical and health services managers are projected each year, on average, over the decade. (BSL-Tab #6, 2023).
